The firefighting community and others are reeling after the tragic death of Chaise Mangold.
The young man died after being rushed to a Springfield hospital following a fire at his family's Sparland property on Saturday. His cousin announced Mangold's death Thursday morning saying “Chaise did not make it through the night.”
Mangold was a member of the Lacon-Sparland Fire Protection District for more than 3 years. A message has gone up on the district's Facebook page saying he was a dedicated member of the department and will be deeply missed.
Mangold's father was also injured in the accident along with two family friends. A Go Fund Me page set up on behalf of the Mangold family raised nearly $25,000 in two days.
