More details have been released regarding a police search that prompted some Ottawa schools to go on a “soft” lockdown.
Just past 11 Thursday morning, an Ottawa police officer tried to pull over a vehicle on La Salle Street that came up stolen out of Schiller Park. The vehicle crashed at La Salle and West Washington Streets and three suspects fled on foot. One was caught shortly after while two others got away. Due to Marquette Academy being close by, they were notified to take precautions.
After a perimeter was set, the two remaining suspects were tracked down just blocks away on Columbus Street. Twenty-five-year-old Kemar Matthews-Hill of Chicago was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing/eluding, possession of a weapon by a felon, resisting an officer and multiple traffic tickets. Twenty-four-year-old Shimund Jones also of Chicago was picked up on a parole violation warrant along with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, resisting an officer and unlawful trespass to a motor vehicle. Also arrested was a 17-year-old girl from Chicago for possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and unlawful trespass to a vehicle.
Jones and Matthews-Hill were taken to the La Salle County Jail while the teenager was taken to the La Salle County Juvenile Detention Home. Additional charges may be pending.
