It's report card time for hospitals across Starved Rock Country.
The non-profit patient safety watchdog called “Leapfrog Group” has put out its spring safety grades for over 100 hospitals statewide. St. Margaret's Health-Peru, formerly Illinois Valley Community Hospital and St. Margaret's Health-Spring Valley, formerly St. Margaret's Hospital both received a “C” safety grade while OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa received a “B”. The grades are the same as they were in the fall for the Ottawa and Spring Valley hospitals while the Peru hospital saw a big drop from an “A” safety grade last fall to a “C”.
Hospitals are graded on things like: infections; problems with surgeries; practices to prevent errors; and communications and responsiveness of staff. OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota and Perry Memorial Hospital Princeton aren’t part of the safety study.
