Retail theft in Illinois can have an organized crime aspect to it. Some retail criminal acts are done by mules in a much larger enterprise. All this brought out by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Rhoul Monday in announcing the creation of a retail theft crime Task Force:
Rhoul stated organized retail theft is responsible for $45 billion dollars in annual losses. Members will share information across county lines and tap into help from other states. Organized retail theft, he said, can be associated with human trafficking and money laundering. It is becoming more violent and more sophisticated.
