The City of Peru is planning to acquire 43 trees, planned for Centennial, Washington and Baker Lake parks.
There are plans for 38 trees at $300 a piece that are 2 ½-3 inches wide, along with 5 bigger trees at 4 ½-5 inches wide that will cost $1,000 each.
Alderman Mike Sapienza said at the current rate, there will be almost no oak trees at Centennial Park in 20 years.
Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events, said the disc golf club would like to start shaping the course to make it more challenging, so trees are planned for there too.
If you have a certain place you’d like a tree in town, contact your aldermen as the council plans to vote on the measure at the next meeting.
